With what looked like primer on the hood, hideous wheels, a disgusting exhaust, broken lights, and misaligned panels. Then comes out the owner who looked like he spends 90% of his money on drugs. That made me sad :( The car needs a better owner.

I haven't seen a 240sx in a while outside of semi-pro drifting, especially one that is unmolested.
Even though I've come to love the E36 of the same era more, this was the practical sports coupe I lusted after back then.

They are such good cars too, light, RWD, and fun! Plus imagine the potentail! You live in Aussie land don't you? Here in 'Murica they are known by the name 240sx.

Not to mention reliable! They had a truck engine, which didn't sound all that nice.

Just so you know, pic is unrelated to the car I actually saw. If you know that, how bad does it get?

yeah USA has the ka24 van motor in them, for emissions?
I'm not entirely sure if the ones here are all imports or not, they're everywhere though, and super cheap for parts. I wanted one for aages when I was a teenager, but settled on the MR2 after driving both. Grip>Drift

Yeah we got the crappy thing instead of the turbocharged engines like the SR20DET, which would have been awesome!
I also wanted one when I was looking for a car. Problem? Well my parents said I need a new car. Even though, I wanted to buy something cheap, with my money. Alas, dad helped me out and I bought an FR-S, with a bit of help

Exterior: Uneven rattle can spray paint, strange paint jobs, dented panels everywhere, flaking/worn out paint, big bore second hand exhaust (guarenteed on almost all JDM cars), ugly front bumper, completely different or no rear bumper, really really cheap crap looking wheels, spoiler removal marks, oversized cheap radiators, mud and grime everywhere (no one cleans cars here!)
Interior: Mud/dirt everywhere, budget steering wheels, cheap radio/cd player, cheap race seats, sometimes cheesy interior lights, extra boost gauges (also cheap).
This is probably the best generalization of all the '90s cars around here though...That's NZDM for you, maybe we are full of druggies.

These aren't the worst BTW, there are quite a lot being DD without registration and licenses (so they're harder to sell online)

Weren't they known for having overheating issues? I had a friend in high school that had a bone stock one. He was always struggling to keep temps down

the FR-S is much a better car, and even with the SR20DET the 180's and 200sx's aren't a whole lot faster on stock boost. (they might even be slower)
and you have real cupholders. without having to remove the ashtray anyway.

This all might be true, but I hate bumming off my parents. I don't know why, but I feel super guilty about it. Maybe I am just crazy.

I can't stand the big ol' fart can exhausts. Generally the piping is far to big for its own good. 2.3 to 2.5 inches is all you need really.
Funny thing is, if they put a little effort into the car they could make them look great! At my school there is a GTR with no spoiler, and you can clearly see the spoiler marks. Just pay a little extra and get a new trunk. . .

I think that just means you're well adjusted. I'm not really a fan of people who mooch off their parents with no remorse.
I knew one guy with a Maserati in High School, and for his 21st his parents gave him a company to 'play with'
tears were wept

In my defense, I did pay for 45% of the car AND all the mods I have gotten, I have paid for myself. So I am not completely mooching, but still, there is a sense of dissatisfaction that I can't really explain.
I know a kid at my school who does all of the following: Flys first class everywhere(last year he went from the US to Hong Kong, back to the US, back to Singapore, than back to India, then finally came back to the US all in first class), he bought a 2k watch without even thinking about it, he owns all current apple products, and sooooooooooo much more.
TLDR: He is a prick

I am not sure really, haven't looked much into these cars other than the fact that they are a ton of fun, with a bunch of parts.

Would be interesting to know if overheating issues were common. Just talking about this reminds me of my childhood. Overheating was so much more common in the 80s. Cars are better built now and rarely overheat as long as they are maintained properly.
